this video – it is all in Greek- but especially worthwhile watching shortly after  the 12^th minute until the end!!-  was taken from the Birthday Party organized in the village of Raches /Ikaria in honor of Mrs Joanna’s  100^th birthday!

Why here on my blog? Well, I have known  her personally for many years , as she is the grandma of very close friends. I have seen and admired her at her weaving loom many times, creating the most beautiful fabrics one can imagine! 100 years of Life- not an easy one as she says herself , with many thorns and not many roses…but with never ending Strength, Courage, high Spirits, Creativity, Phantasy, countless ideas and a great respect and love of nature! The weaving loom (I hope it is the right word??) is her great love, her comfort throughout all her life, it has dried many tears, has always been her support! She might still now get up in the middle of the night and weave and weave. All her worries go away, pains or troubles and she ends up weaving and singing! She also has a big collection of stones, which she “studies” and discovers the lines in them, just passes them with a pencil…and there you are, a masterpiece of art by nature! A face, a person, an animal! She recently published a book about her stones!

To me she is an inspiring example for life, comfort, strength and wisdom! Please watch her dancing at the end of the video together with local girls in their beautiful dresses. Mrs Joanna has also build a special weaving school for them in her beloved village. I am sure you will be as moved as I was seeing her dance! …

May she be blessed with more years, health and time to share her wisdom and life with us!

Η Κυρά του αργαλιού- η Κυρία Ιωάννα

Στο βίντεο θα δείτε απόσπασμα από την τιμητική βραδιά που έγινε στις Ράχες Ικαρίας για τα 100.  (ναι!!) γενέθλια της Κυρίας Ιωάννας. Γιατί σας τα ανεβάζω?

Την γνωρίζω προσωπικά πολλά χρόνια επειδη ειναι η γιαγια πολύ φιλικής μας οικογένιας και την έχω δει «επί το έργο» στον αργαλειό της στην Νεα Ιωνία/Αθήνα, σαν νεαρό κοριτσακι να ανεβαίνει στον πάγκο της, να υφαίνει, να δημιουργεί τα πιο λεπτά και φανταστικά υφάσματα που μπορεί να φανταστεί κανεις! 100 χρόνια μιας οχι και ευκολης ζωής, όπως λέει η ίδια, με πολλά αγκάθια και λίγα μόνο τριαντάφυλλα...αλλά ΠΑΝΤΑ με πείσμα, αγωνιστηκότητα, κέφι, φαντασία, ατελείωτες ιδέες, θαυμασμό για την φύση. Ο αργαλειός ειναι η μεγάλη της αγάπη και όπως λέει η ιδια, έχει σβήσει πολλά δακρυά της , την έχει βοηθήσει πάντα στην ζωή της και δεν τον εγκαταλέιπει ποτέ! Μπορεί να σηκώνεται μες στην νύχτα και να πάει να υφαίνει! Όλα τις περνάνε τότε, τα βάσανα, οι πόνοι, οι σκέψεις! Τις δίνει πάντα νέα δύναμη, νέες ιδέες, σαν τραγούδι! Έχει επίσης  μια τεράστια συλλογη από πέτρες και κοχύλια, πολλά βραβεια και τελευταια δημοσίευσε και ενα βιβλίο με τις πέτρες της! Τι κάνει?.. είναι φοβερό! Βρίσκει μια πέτρα...την κοιτάει, την περιεργάζεται ...και βλέπει ενα σχέδιο, ενα πρόσωπο, ενα ζώο...τονώνει τις γραμμες της πέτρας μονο με ενα μολυβάκι και έτσι αποκαλύπτεται η ζωγραφιά της φύσης!

Για μένα είναι παράδειγμα  ζωής η γιαγια, παρηγοριά, δύναμη και έμπνευση! Αν δείτε τον χορό στο τέλος του βίντεο στο αγαπημενο της χωριό- όπου έφτιαξε και σχολή για αργαλειο πριν λιγα χρόνια- πιστευω οτι θα συγκινηθήτε και θα δακρύσετε όπως κι εγώ! Να ζήσει , να ειναι καλά και να μας χαρίσει ακόμα πολλά απ την σοφία της!

Die Webstuhlfrau- Frau Joanna von Ikaria

Im Video seht ihr Auszuege aus der besonderen Veranstaltung im Dorf Raches auf der Insel Ikaria zum 100. (ja!!) Geburtstag von Frau Joanna. Warum ich das hier einstelle?

Ich kenne sie persoenlich seit vielen Jahren, denn sie ist die Grossmutter von einer gut befreundeten Familie hier. Viele Male habe ich sie beim Weben gewundert und beobachtet, mit wunderschoenen feinen Stoffen- man kann es sich kaum vorstellen wie schoen! 100 Jahre eines nicht einfachen Lebens- wie sie selbst sagt- mit vielen Dornen und wenig Rosen...aber IMMER mit Mut, Lebensfreude, Fantasie, Kampfgeist , unendlich vielen Ideen und grosser Achtung vor der Natur! Ihre grosse Liebe ist der Webstuhl, der- wieder ihre eigenen Worte, viele ihrer Traenen abgewischt hat, ihr ihr ganzes Leben geholfen hat und den sie niemals aufgeben wird! Es kommt oft vor, dass sie mitten in der Nacht aufsteht und an den Webstuhl geht- sich auf die Sitzbank wie ein junges Maedchen schwingt!!- und dann vergehen ihr alle duesteren Gedanken, alle Sorge, alle Schmerzen. Sie schoepft dort immer wieder Kraft, neue Ideen, Froehlichkeit und webt und webt und singt dabei! Ausser Weben, sammelt sie auch Steine, die sie genau studiert,darauf dann Linien entdeckt, diese nur mit Bleistift etwas nachzeichnet...und schon sieht man ein Kunstwerk der Natur! Vor kurzem  hat sie auch ein Buch ueber ihre Steuine veroeffentlicht!

Mir bedeutet sie sehr viel...Weisheit, Trost, Kraft! Am Ende des Videos – kurz vor der 12..Minute koennt ihr sie tanzen sehen, in ihrem geliebten Heimatdorf zusammen mit jungen Maedchen in Tracht, fuer die sie vor Jahren schon eine ganz besondere Webschule dort aufgebaut hat! Ich glaube ihr werdet genauso geruehrt sein wie ich!

Viele Jahre wuensche ich ihr noch, in Gesundheit und Freude und dass sie uns noch viel von ihrer Lebensweisheit weitergeben kann!
